One feature I really miss from Nautilus is the ability to mount remote file systems through SSH (WebDAV is fine but isn’t used anywhere near as much!). Fortunately, I came across MacFUSE – an API based on FUSE – which allows people to add several file systems through their file managers which otherwise would not have been supported (eg FTPFS, SSH, NTFS). MacFuse is pretty intimidating without a GUI and my favourite has to be MacFusion.
MacFusion is a GUI which allows you to easily add FTP or SSH file systems through MacFuse. It’s far from perfect: when I mounted this site via. SSH it would allow me to drag the mount into the toolbar, but took several minutes to appear there! It does open (with only a slight lag) in Finder and is a much friendlier way of browsing files than using Cyberduck or using the ’ssh’ application in bash!
MacFusion also supports public key authentication and QuickSilver… very nice! Best of all, it’s all FOSS!
