Last year, I signed up to be informed on a free web operating system called Xindesk and as of yet t still is not public. To be honest with you, I absolutely forgot about this start-up as I have seen very little progress in about 9 months!
Xindesk was set up around March 2007 but it is still in ‘developer alpha’ and has just renamed to ‘Cloudo‘ (apparently it will no longer integrate widgets) and we are assured it will launch soon.
When a small start-up goes public, providing screenshots etc, you (or at least I) would expect a release within 3 months but Xindesk have kept us waiting far too long consequently losing our interest for several months. When I received an email off Xindesk this morning regarding the name change, I thought it was another press release because I didn’t remember the name!
If a start-up announces development well before a product is ready, I would suggest they send emails to those who have acknowledged interest in the product about once a month to fill them in (making them feel involved in the development process and maintaining their interest). After a year, it’s better to release a buggy alpha than nothing at all (look at Vista’s mistake: it took several years to release a buggy final release!) The screenshot below looks like an obscure mixture of OS X and Windows Vista!

agreed…out with it already! vaporware?
Try Xcerions product Icloud instead.
Way ahead of Cloudo.
Personally I believe Cloudo gives a whole new meaning to the word waporware. But hey, they are owned by an advertisement agency, so what could one expect? Mockup, Photoshop anyone?
I agree with the above comment, try http://icloud.com instead. Its not perfect yet, but things are happening and it could get awesome if things continue to progress.
Ted from Cloudo here.
It HAS taken far more time than originally planned to develop Cloudo. We acquired and incorprated bits an WebOS called Challenger and we actually have rebuilt big chunks of the core system since first announced (under the name of Xindesk), to make the service run smoother and more elegantly.
We are dedicated to developing the best online alternative (or addition) to the offline desktop environments we all use, and we aren’t satisfied until it is as snappy and as user friendly as Windows or Mac OS. This will take time. To avoid making anyone dissapointed we aren’t communicating any release dates, but it will take many months before the service is stable and usable enough for consumers. Until them we are in beta.
The reason that we still are in private beta is both because the system isn’t ready yet, and also because we want to deliver of the developer’s expectations in terms of giving feedback etc.
In a few months hopefully we will extend the beta to public beta.
Sorry if we made anyone dissapointed not communicating often enough, but we strongly believe you have to have something to say to talk.
Best,
Ted Persson

Hi, if you wonder what happened to the original system, it went on to become widgetplus. http://www.widgetplus.com
