Blogging and world peace

Internet — Joe Anderson @ 11:34 pm Saturday 1 December 2007

Will ideas such as blogging and citizen journalism eventually bring world peace? The answer is most certainly no; but both are an interesting example of true global co-operation. Bloggers communicate with one another across borders: I’ve been in contact with bloggers from four continents in the last fortnight (North Americans, a South American, an (South) African and of course fellow Europeans!)!

Bloggers generally won’t hold grudges against other nations over petty territorial disputes due to their love for a certain topic or blogging itself. Even political bloggers generally won’t fuel hatred like much of the traditional media does (obviously with exceptions on both sides)!

The Internet, especially blogging, is a good move towards an international media (there are very few international newspapers, TV stations etc).

Of course, many government censor the net and specifically the blogosphere. Still, even if the Chinese can’t read this site (I don’t know if they can or not! If you’re in China comment!), I can read theirs and understand the Chinese viewpoint on the World (whilst CCTV9 is great, it shows the opinion of the government and not the people!).

If only the UN worked as well as the blogosphere…

  1. I agree. The blogosphere won’t be our redemption but it has helped us to broaden our perspective of the world.

  2. It is pretty amazing yeah. And somehow people are less judgemental here (on the blogosphere) too. I guess you still get a lot of cruel people, but overall, people are much more accepting of strange cultures. I believe its cause we’re all intrigued by it really, just sometimes too scared to give people a chance to tell us about themselves, their habits and countries. I guess on here the best thing is that we’re kind of anonymous, and we can really have the opinions we want, without having to face people condemning us for them…
