LiveRail, previously covered by 9rules’ Rev2, is a new video advertising platform currently in private beta. LiveRail provides services for both advertisers and publishers (who get a 50% share from advertising revenue generated from their videos) much like Revver. Unlike Revver, the site doesn’t list videos like YouTube but is aimed solely for people to embed the code into their webpages similar to InVideo.
In a way describing it as ‘unique’ is slightly misleading, because as I’ve commented above AdBrite has a similar system.
What I do love about LiveRail is the site’s no nonsense design. There are no extra, useless features and everything is kept to the minimum. For example, on the video upload page you just need to type in the video’s name, description, categories and then finally upload it! The colours used are a dark motif which I would normally oppose but I think are used to a tasteful effect on this site.
When you view a video, adverts are displayed and video publishers are paid in a PPC manner involving bidding (similar to AdSense). This money then goes into the publisher’s account at LiveRail and could ordinarily be withdrawn (withdrawals aren’t available whilst the site is still in beta… I hope it’s not a typical Web 2.0-’beta’!). Note that the accounts are in the USD which isn’t too great for myself with the current exchange rate (US$2 = GB£1ish) or anyone who uses the Euro (the € is rising against the US$).
Below is a video I uploaded (which I don’t hold the copyright to but I’m using under a CC licence. Source):
Embedding takes place through JavaScript as adverts are targeted depending on region etc.
Adverts are displayed as rotated text below the video. Maybe you might see one during this video!
