Before I get started, can I just say that one of BlogMad’s founders has created an interesting SEO guide, which is currently available at his blog.
UbuntuWire is a search engine, powered by Google, which searches Ubuntu and Kubuntu related sites. This is useful if you, like me, are starting to use Ubuntu (albeit in my case only every so often) and experience difficulty but find immense difficulty trawling through pages of unrelated Google results!
UbuntuWire, meanwhile, searches a small selection of Ubuntu/Kubuntu-related domains like ubuntuforums.org ; this gives you a smaller amount of results but they are likely to be more related to what you’re searching for.
In all fairness to Google, they try to accommodate Linux, OS X, Windows and BSD users by providing specialised search engines for them all. Sadly, this doesn’t quite cut it for Linux or BSD users as they have a number of different ‘distributions’ which each differ.
The site is pretty simple and also has a sneaky little way of making profit: Google ads on the search result page! I also have to say I dislike the URLs you get after a search. A search for ‘ubuntu’ gives me a URL of http://www.ubuntuwire.com/index.php?cx=015625750094112125028%3A7utzntxrw5m
&cof=FORID%3A11&q=ubuntu&sa=Search#994!
The search results page doesn’t look very attractive either and I believe certain colours (such as the light blue) are too bright to read on the site’s white background. The site also lacks a title.

That’s pretty interesting. Being a full-time Ubuntu user it may help me out a bit. Fortunately I made it through the “frustration” stage that you might be in right now. I basically jumped in to Ubuntu with both feet and it was either sink or swim so that somewhat accelerated the learning curve for me. When I first started with Ubuntu I found that throwing the word “ubuntu” into any google search yeilded great results. So did using the Linux search from google. Nevertheless, thanks for the tip.
