What services do you pay for?

Internet — Joe Anderson @ 8:17 pm Thursday 24 May 2007

There are so many web 2.0 sites out there and many offer paid accounts. My question for you is how many of these do you pay for?

I can think of two sites I pay for annually or biannually, those being Flickr and last.fm, but I ‘pay-as-I-go’ on services such as Skype and World Tracker.

I also have a number of accounts which I would usually pay for free of charge. One example is BlogShares, where I payed a fellow member in in-game currency for a premium account, and another being Box.net where I have a premium account as I racked up enough referrals.

Which sites do you pay for an account on?

  2. you PAY for flickr and lastFm???!!

I can understand why one would pay for flickr as it does give extra space for photos but unless you’re actually selling them then why not just upload a selection of the best ones.

As for lastfm I didn’t even know they had a premium service. What in the world does that offer that’s value for money - do you get to see what madonna or britney is listening to - or access to even more useless metrics!?

I’m happy not to be ashamed on my ignorance because as far as I’m concerned, given that I’ve used lastfm and flickr for over a year I should know. It’ not a matter of me not being hip to the jive but rather their lack effective marketing.

So to answer your question - not much! I either don’t know what these sites offer at premium level or I don’t care. I tend to only use these big social network sites to get a bigger footprint anyway - I don’t ‘like’ them as such.

  3. I don’t think I pay for any.

I might end up paying for a site traffic service like crazyegg or tapefailure one day though. But not just yet.
