GameCopyWorld: Play games without the disc

Software — Joe Anderson @ 10:13 pm Wednesday 7 March 2007

GameCopyWorld is a website which hosts versions of games modified so they don’t need a disc to play (although they still require a valid serial etc). The idea is so when you want to play The Sims 2, you don’t need to rummage for your Sims 2 CD! The site is not intended to be a resource for pirates but more as a resource for frustated gamers! Webby’s World does not endorse or support piracy.

The site is fairly large; GCW have 13 mirrors across 3 continents. This ensures the user of the site has fast download speeds and that it can handle with demands on its servers.

The site works by downloading the executable file for a game (say Sims2EP5.exe) which you overwrite as the original version. This allows you to play the game without physically placing the disc in! Most of these patches seem to work; I’ve yet to find one which doesn’t.

GameCopyWorld does have adverts and a Web 1.0 design. However, the adverts aren’t too intrusive and it is quite possible the design is best for this type of content.

  1. I never knew this existed. Why don’t sites like this show up when I do a search?
