Even More TechCrunch Drama

Internet — Joe Anderson @ 8:35 pm Thursday 14 December 2006

TechCrunch seems to get gossiped about much more than any blog. You often wonder if it’s some sort of marketing tactic, as the amount of gossip is simply ridiculous. There’s pages of gossip about TechCrunch at Gawker’s Valleywag. Every little thing Arrington (TechCrunch’s owner) does seems to get commented on by Valleywag’s Nick Denton.

I often wonder why TechCrunch is so controversial; it is not the largest blog on the Internet, yet it gets talked about much more than sites like Engadget, which has a higher Technorati rank (at 4 over 9!).

TechCrunch UK, which we have criticized before, was put on hiatus. I have to admit I found the blog interesting; but it appears Arrington and Sam Sethi, the (former) editor of TechCrunch UK, have had a bit of an arguement over two articles Sethi made regarding Le Web 3 (one of which has been deleted by Arrington).

The question is does anyone care? TechCrunch UK only has 1962 readers and for some reason I think this whole drama may be a marketing ploy to draw more users to the site. Arrington must’ve knew when he terminated his relationship with Sethi that many posts would be made supporting or criticizing Arrington at other Web 2.0 blogs. This, of course, would draw more attention to TechCrunch UK. (note I have used nofollow on links into TechCrunch Network domains)

Reading Arrington’s explanation, I could not help but laugh. Apparently the issue started following Loic Le Meur, the organizer of Le Web 3 making a comment calling Sethi an asshole. Of course, this is not how you spell it in British English :P .
