Gmail Mobile: why bother?

Internet — Joe Anderson @ 10:07 pm Monday 6 November 2006

There has been a lot of hype recently regarding Gmail Mobile, but I’ve been using Gmail’s WAP service for months now and I’ve never been disappointed.

As much as I hate to say it, I’ve always found Java phone apps a bit annoying. They didn’t work well on my old MC60, nor do they on my Windows Mobile XDA Mini S. I find, and I’m sure most people would agree, that using a mobile browser is much easier.

Surely using their old system is cheaper too, especially for PAYG users. It must be cheaper not to have to download the software, and to be able just to type in a URL. Fine, you don’t get all the lovely eyeandy, but you can send and receive email.

Just pointing the fact an old (and IMO better) system still exists.

  1. Dude, Gmail mobile is bloody fantastic. Just because your phone doesn’t support it doesn;t make it any less fantastic. I love the bloody thing, it comes righht after Opera Mini for my top mobile apps.
