The selectivity of respondents is not randomized, making any inferences regarding populations impossible. I do not see actually what the creators of this site are attempting to achieve. The first topics was chosen for obvious reasons : its a popular topic and can get me off to a good start, and attract alot of visitors, the next topics will be much more unique, idiotic, and controvensial. The large gap is happening because its checking for double votes :P it runs through a list of IPs to make sure nobody votes twice, but the vote gets registered even if he/she leaves the page before it changing.
