This isn’t the main post for today!: I was recently invited to test AllPeers, a Firefox extension which allows you to using P2P file-sharing (TechCrunch has a more detailed write up), and I quite quickly observed that it keeps the firefox.exe process running even after Mozilla Firefox has been closed.
I imagine this is done so that transfers can be completed even when the browser isn’t visually open. The downside is, when you close your browser (and you actually want it to close) it is still running in the background, with any pages running still running. They can be restored by simply clicking the AllPeers icon in the system tray.
It could be argued that in fact this is an advantage, but if you actually want your browser to stop: it is not.
Would it be too hard for a prompt to be displayed when Firefox is closing asking if you want AllPeers to keep running? This would make me happy, and keep the folks who like the way it minimizes to tray.
Update: Apparently you can turn the minimize to tray on/off by going into Tools>AllPeer preferences
