TagFetch

is a metasearch engine for tags. Basically, you do a search for a tag, and it gathers results from various big Web 2.0 sites.

The site’s homepage is extremely simple; comprising only of a footer, login link, logo, input box and a few check boxes. The check boxes control which types of site you wish to search, though you can’t specify a site individually. For example, if you select Media, it will search Flickr and YouTube for that tag, and aggregate the results in one page.

The other sites the search engine searches are NewsVine, reddit, TailRank for news; del.icio.us for bookmarks; and Feedster and Technorati for blogs. I would like to see the addition of Digg (though this may be problematic due to the lack of tags), BlinkList, and Ma.gnolia.com.Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

I believe this site is very useful to bloggers, as I often search through multiple Web 2.0-ish sites to find something new to blog about, this is reflected in Brian Benzinger’s brief comment on this service. It could also prove useful to the mass-media, who wish to find media and opinions relating to a certain piece of news.

Unfortunately, the site do not provide RSS feeds for a specific tag, though they give the ability to registered users to save a search. This means that it is displayed in the sidebar of all future searches, though it is not accesible without operating another search. Also, a search history is saved.

Another complaint I have is the complete lack of AJAX. If this site used AJAX, it would be much more user friendly and interesting. Personally, I find the lack of AJAX in this service slightly ironic. This site would be a perfect use for AJAX, as it could be used on the search form and result page.

Currently the site that is up right now was a prototype but fully functional and we wanted to provide the service kinks and all.

Just wanted you and your readers know that we are working really hard to make a much better product that will be fun and useful.
