Posticky

put simply is an online service.

The site has numerous features, the most interesting has to be mobile access. You can read your notes through your WAP browser, and also receive reminders through SMS. Naturally, this SMS feature is aimed at Americans and does not support international number, this renders this function useless to a Brit. However, you can choose to receive reminders by email. Reminders can be set fairly simply.

The interface uses a lot of AJAX. For example, notes can be dragged around the window (without the use of Java) and if you edit a note it does so without any page changing (double clicking a note changes it into an editable rich text box), much like WebNote. Unlike WebNote, Posticky uses a lot of transparency which is much nicer to the eye. Couple of problems with this though: there’s a Google ad in the bottom left, but this isn’t in a movable note and it’s transparency often obscures notes in that area. Personally, if I was to have a Google ad I’d put it in a sidebar. Also, as Mashable* points out the dark background isn’t very attractive. This, however, is said to be fixed in a future version.

The notes themselves are very customisable. The style of text (bold, strikethrough, italic and underline), text size, text colour, bullets and numbers and also background colours and images can be chosen. You can’t use any image, but you can use various patterns and the American and Canadian flags, but no UK flag!

Another interesting feature is that you can search through notes. I for one doubt I’d ever have another notes to suffice a search!

It is possible to also add notes to folders. This is done by dragging-and-dropping. The thing I most like about this is the fade out which occurs! :P

One thing I’d like would be able to make it my homepage. Currently, when you log-in you get taken to index.php over a URL specific to the user such as /computerjoe . This would make your notes easier to bookmark, too.

To cut the site some slack, it’s still in alpha. I hope they fix some of the things I’ve mentioned above, as then it would be a fantastic personalised homepage (I still have about:blank set as my homepage :D ).

  7. I really wish I had a better computer, so stuff like this would work decently. I’m sure I could find a use for something like this.

  8. [...] Sticking sticky notes around your monitor is a great way to remind you to do things, but monitors get quickly full, as well as the fact that you’re wasting paper. There are many online sticky note services, like Stikkit and Posticky, and new ones seem to be spring up every other minute. One of the newest ones is called StickyTag. [...]
