9rules is, put simply, a blog network. The network is split into communities, which are basically categories such as Web 2.0, or as they put it Web++, and even Literature. To join this network, you need to submit your blog during a 24 hour period which is specified a week or so in advance. And then, you need to be accepted.
9rules take various things into account: consistency, design, and audience participation. In my opinion, I’m fairly consistent, and though my design isn’t original - it’s fairly nice
, and I often get many comments - though not as many as I’d like. As you may have guessed, I’m planning on applying. When I see the other fantastic blogs in the network, such as Solution Watch, I wish to be in their league.
The site, itself, has a couple of adverts throughout - yet has an interesting design, but no
One use of the site is for bloggers who need an idea what do write can look through similar (high-quality) blogs to find something to blog about. This is useful for bloggers who often get blogger block.
I, for one, do not normally subscribe to blog’s specific to a product. However, I subscribe to 9rule’s blog and often find it an interesting read. It often blogs broader than about it’s own product alone. I find this a good marketing idea; users don’t subscribe as they like the posts, but when an announcement is coming, they get it. Official company blogs like Official Google Blog do not make entertaining posts, and you simply glance over it for any interesting press releases.
Most importantly, the reason I am posting this is to tell you that from Wednesday 17th May between 00:00 and 23:59 EST (I’ve complained about the systemic bias, surely in the small world we live in today it should be in UTC?), which is 4am UTC to 3:59am UTC (on the 18th May). If you don’t know your UTC offset, or you simply can’t be bothered, you could use this converter (convert it from Philadelphia). So, if you’re interested, subscribe to their RSS feed and read more about round 4.

I’ve been following this run-up to the current submission round as well. I’ve been vaguely thinking of applying (or at least first evaluating what I offer and they’re looking for).
My single biggest question would be: ‘why?’. Would it be to feel better as a blogger, to generate traffic, to belong to ‘a set’? I still don’t know.
But you’re right, the overall quality at 9Rules is good and that sets it apart from most of the junk you see on traffic exchange sites. Hope you get in!
Personally, I believe it generates traffic; but more importantly respect.
Oh cool! I will check it out! Let us know if you get in — good luck!
just posted a blog entry linking to you..
Rule with 9rules…
9rules is a blog network, comprised of a few hundred blogs and a few dozen communities (parts of the site blogs are categorised in, to put it simply). Unlike blog networks such as Gawker or Weblogs Inc., 9rules doesn’t own it’s members, nor…
[...] Joe has a really cool post about a new blog network called 9rules. In order to join, you have to submit your blog during a specified 24 hour period that they inform you about approximately a week in advance. You don’t need to join 9rules to enjoy 9rules though, they already have a bunch of communities you can browse now. [...]
