The Wikipedia is one of the most famous uses of Web 2.0. What not everyone knows is that there are different versions for diffeent languages. The largest, obviously, is the English Wikipedia with over 1,000,000 articles; the German Wikipedia has nearly 400,000, the French 265k and the Polish version has 225k.
There are many smaller Wikipedias which I’m going to highlight:
- The Esperanto (the international language invented in 1887 with 100,000 to 2,000,000 speakers (estimates vary)) edition of the Wikipedia has 42,000 articles! Visit it.
- The Simple English Wikipedia is a simplified version of the Wikipedia aimed for those learning English. It has 8,046 pages, but I expect this to be expanded.
- The Klingon (yes, it’s an actual language) version of the wIqIpe’DIya has a massive 62 pages! Still, it has a really funny thing. On the English Wikipedia there’s a go button. On the Klingon Wikipedia it simple says BaH! Quoting a Digg comment:
some people have too much time on their hands.
thenativeraver - You can view a list of all of the languages at Meta-Wiki.
