We Brits aren’t used to good, quick service unlike many Americans are. So I was very shocked when I had a reply granting me a refund, due to excessive clicking of Purchase when there was a problem with some Micro$oft database they were using.
I was shocked to get a refund, nevermind so fast.
So, you are asking, who are this wonderful company? World-Tracker.com . World-Tracker.com is a site which uses GSM and, when possible, GPS to locate people’s phones. It was a big story on Digg a week back. It then plots it on a Google Map. The site isn’t simple though, too heavy in my view. It tries to integrate too many things together - Skype even comes into it somewhere.
Still, the site is a really nice use of the Google Maps API, which I’m sure might even save a life. I’ve used a similar site before, however it didn’t use the API - and there was much more paperwork. Nonetheless, that site had an easier navagation system. This site was ChildLocate, however, I only ever used a free trial I got off a magazine for this service. I’ve bought ?5 of credit for World Tracker.
It’s covered more by Engadget and Pocket-Lint.
Microsoft are spending $120,000,000 in changing its image through advertising to change it’s image from a large American company. Microsoft has nearly one third of it’s 63,000 employees outside the states, and 37% of it’s money was made out of the US. And for the large part, the fourth word in my view proves it.
Microsoft has already started these advertisements. Still, I believe Microsoft is now trying too hard to do what Google did so well. Making themselves appear open and using invites to build up a hype. Microsoft need to find something new if they want to reborn.
Right, I enjoyed myself and I’m back. Quality posts coming up soon, I promise. I’ll upload the (very few) photos I have to Flickr in the next few days.
As you may know from this post, I’m currently on holiday - apparently away from keyboard (AFK).
I’ve found out that the hotel has internet, though it is a little on the pricey side. Still, it is Kubuntu, with Firefox 1.0.7 (okay… little out of date).
Anyhow, I’m happy to see I haven’t missed much. No major tech news about from Steve Jobs telling Dell to eat their words
!
Now, why is this? When I open up The Times newspaper on Friday, I only see three things to do with computers. Something about high-def DVDs, something pointless on how online newspaper circulation has gone up and then something about a new WiFi technology. You know what? I couldn’t care about either three.
None of these appeal to me. Okay. Why would I want any high-def DVDs? I rarely watch DVDs, and when I do, it’s on my PC. So, I ask why the interest? 1 reason. Many big companies are risking a lot by choosing one format. I’m personally not planning on buying and HD-DVDs until the war is won by someone. I don’t want to be the holder of the Betamax.
Okay, secondly. What importance does a websites hits have? None. It is bound to grow. The internet is growing.
Finally, this new WiFi thing was WiMax. I’ve never had much of an interest in WiFi. Partly, as I’m not a laptop user (nor fan) and secondly, I though the technology took a while to become mainstream. Fair enough - it’s very useful, as I’ve seen with the Palm. Still, it will never replace a good wired connection.
Don’t you get sick of this type of tech too?
