As you might know, Mario Kart DS has something called WFC. This is Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, which allows you to play against others over the internet. This will be very straight forward for most, however it was slightly harder for me. Another game with WFC is Tony Hawk’s American SK8Land.
I have a Linksys WAG54G V.2 router, which was running 1.00.19 firmware. My Nintendo DS wouldn’t pick up my WiFi signal, however a Palm & my desktop did. I put the DS next to the router, and it still wouldn’t detect. I then realised it would be the firmware. After a few Googles I discovered off a few forums I needed the 1.00.47 firmware. The problem was, I couldn’t find this firmware anywhere & LinkSys support refused to provide me with it as it is in beta.
So, I decided to trawl around LinkSys’s FTP server and I found the 1.01.15 (UK) firmware in this directory. Luckily, I didn’t require to mess on with QoS or anything as complex as the Tlog’s Pedro Timóteo, as documented here.
Anyhow, the game is great!

Linksys has been sketchy lately about alot of its wireless routers. Between which ones run Linux or not, and your issue with the NDS, it seems like they’re pissing around and putting too much on their plate.
Have fun gaming, though. Hopefully soon I can snag myself a DS of my own. When I do, I’ll be sure to get online and challange ya!
That answer’s the WiFi problem I have been wondering about. You’ve just made my son happy.
Thanks
Thanks a LOT! I was having trouble running Mario Kart DS on WiFi and I had the same router. Found your page on google, thanks again!
Awesome, i also found your page on google, you made my nephew a very happy lad, thanks!
thank you so much, i spent months trying to sort my linksys out, and it finally works, you’re a genius
Thanks a million. I was trying to get it working with 1.00.19 firmware. No success. Then I found this on Google. It solved the problem.
My son is so happy and says “Thanks dude”
hey man, i really want this to work but i cant find the 1.00.47 firmware on that link you put up there, please help, i cant find it!! i jus wanna play mario kart DS on my WAG54G. please help
Another WAG54G-owning Googler whose problems have all now been sorted, after three mails to Nintendo vanished into the ether. Now all I’ve gotta do is improve my karting skills - a lot! Cheers feller!
Wow! Thanks a million. I was beginning to think I’d never get my DS online.
Reedler, here is a direct link to the 1.01.15 firmware. (which includes the needed fix).
firmware
Another happy googler here, thanks :). I’ve had Mario Kart since release and was aching to play online without forking out for a new router.
Worked a charm on my UK WAG54G V.2 - thanks for finding this.
I thought I had found the answer, but no I can still not get my sons ds to work so here are some questions
1 I use MAC filters, the ds mac code is in but could this be the problem ?
2 Do you have to use WEP, I have tried it with and without, - open - still no joy. I know it will not work with WPA
? did you have to do anything else apart from the firmware upgrade
Why? I thought my search was over. I just want a plain english simple readthrough on how to connect! What do you do?
I have the Linksys WAG54G, but v1.2 rather than v2. It’s not working with the Nintendo DS, so I tried the firmware update mentioned here. It doesn’t work. I get a message saying “document contains no data” (after the progress bar has reached the end). The router gets reset (the lights go out, then come back on again), then the progress bar starts from zero again and just keeps cycling around. I waited an hour, and then gave up. It looks like the v1.2 may be one of the routers that simply doesn’t work with the DS….very annoying….
Follow-up to previous message (15-Jul): I’ve got the DS to connect to WAG54G v1.2!! I’m using WEP encryption, and I set the DS to a fixed IP. I used 192.168.1.101, the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, the gateway is 192.168.1.1 (this is important), and the primary DNS server to 212.159.6.10. These numbers are from the router settings, EXCEPT the gateway for which you don’t use the number from the router, but the number I give above. I also had to switch the router to wireless network mode 802.11b (not 802.11g), and updated the firmware to 1.02.7 (see webpage above - it’s the _AnnexA_ETSI_v1.02.7 file I used), however I don’t recommend updating the firmware until you’ve tried the other things first. It took several hours of web-trawling and fiddling with the router to get this to work, so I hope it’s useful to someone.
thanxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx man !!!!!!!!!!!!!! its all working now
