Free Remote Linux Desktop

Software — Joe Anderson @ 6:51 pm Friday 25 November 2005

Okay, a little late reporting this. A few months back on the front of lots of major websites like Digg.com was a free website which offer a 1GB desktop, .

This is done at super fast speeds via. NX. You don’t have administrator rights, so you can’t install other programs. Still, you have access to your favourite’s such as Firefox and Kopete.

What I like most is that I get a speed at 1.5MB/s. This is amazing compared to my 512kb/s. Though the connection to my computer is only 512kb/ps viewing generally isn’t as big as the file – if you get me. So that’s useful.

The downside is I can’t access it a kiosk as I need to download software. Be good if it ran via. Java or even better – Ajax. I would imagine Java would be easy if instead of using NX it used VNC.
